4 game days are always tough, and with St Andrews being substantially further north than the other 3 games, we felt under pressure, particularly with a coach driver light. I understood all too well the East of Scotland League’s desire for the extra game- when else could we head to northern Fife?

We arrived with very little time to spare though as the kick off was put back ten minutes to offset the negotiations with the referee at Lochore. To add more pressure one of the team felt unwell, so we covered for him. With all that was going on the four of us were happy that the club got on with hosting, and we could deal with everything else. Thanks Saints!

St Andrews United were formed in 1921 and moved to the Memorial Recreation Ground a year later with floodlights arriving in 2021. The social club is huge, the hop saw only one of two rooms used and clearly is major money spinner for the club. Special mention should go to the merchandise stall- the range of what was on offer was superb. Outside, as an Oxford United fan I did enjoy the sloping pitch too!

There was something unusual- they did two programmes. Normally they print a single sheet Chinese takeaway menu style programme free of charge, but here they also did a full sized programme for the benefit of the groundhoppers. I remember Caledonian Braves having two programmes for their hop game, for rather different reasons! Saints two did at least complete each other!

We spent some time with the Sauchie committee at half time and were surprised at how they were struggling this season- it may have been in the middle of a deluge when they hosted, but they did well nonetheless. They seemed hopeful then, but ran out of steam in the second half, and in the end the hosts deserved their win.
