I arrived at Priory Park, to a queue of groundhoppers trying to make sense of the Pay & Display machine. Gone are the days when you simply insert a combination of coins you never seem to have, now you phone an automated number that doesn’t seem to understand English, or manipulate an App you don’t have, and there’s not enough 5G to download it. Here by coincidence my one parking App was the one in use here…. the adage of the chimp and the typewriter comes to mind.

Saturday saw the Peninsula Hop start as south-west as we were going to get, in Redruth’s environs and for the next 2 days plus, basically headed north-east. Despite the geography there was little question that in purely groundhopper terms St Day would be the most popular Peninsula League club on the weekend’s event.

The ground dates from 1899, and post World War II became one of the country’s pre-eminent grounds. The first of 26 FA Cup semi finals here here took place in 1915.

Abbey Hey had been the visitors at Stafford Town, Wythenshawe Town and even featured on the very first NWCL Hop at Maine Road. That was on 2017, so no withstanding the break due to Covid, Abbey Hey were certainly due!
