It was (for now) the final day of the West Wales Premier League Hop- but we knew we had a problem, or more accurately two. The first issue was that we at GroundhopUK knew that both Garden Village and West End had recent history in the Welsh League, and given the crowd we’d attracted on the Saturday there was a fair chance that many of them would have visited the Sunday selection before and so headed for home.

For an organised hop that’d been so successful there was a tinge of regret about this season’s visit to West Wales. That was mainly due to the loss for the August Bank Holiday Welsh Hop; the FAW Trophy made it difficult to organise, and the Gwent League’s inability to supply fixtures- impossible. But if this was to be GroundHopUK’s only visit to Wales this season, there was the overarching feeling that we should make it a good one.

Back in 2010 I found myself on a working visit to South Wales, so on the basis that no trip anywhere is complete without a football match I pondered where to head. It boiled down to either Gorseinon-based Garden Village or Mayhill-based West End. I plumped for Garden Village, I’ve no idea why, I haven’t yet got to West End, and so I allowed myself a wry smile when Garden Village became the obvious precursor to the inaugural Carmarthenshire Hop.
