Ardal League South West

CLYDACH 0

MORRISTON TOWN 1 (M Jones 41)

Att 116

Entry & Programme £5

We headed into the Swansea valleys for our middle game of the day. Clydach is a centre for nickel production although anyone expecting an industrial hell hole will be very pleasantly suprised- the town is very elegant indeed, and the view from Coed Gwilym Park was quite stunning.

Clydach has quite a footballing history, the nickel refinery sponsored INCO FC played in the Southern League prior to the First World War, but the current club dates only from 2021. Clydach FC being formed by a merger of FC Clydach and Clydach Cricket Club! What we walked into was a classic case of trying to make a public park both work and pay.

We lost quite a few of the bigger numbers groundhoppers for this game, but ironically to another pitch in the complex to watch Clydach Sports, a completely seperate entity, playing in the Neath League and they weren’t charging to get in either. That gave Clydach a problem, who exactly was watching what?

It’s like this every Saturday albeit less magnified. Are you here to watch Clydach, or Sports, or just there to walk your dog? And if you challenge someone, you are completely reliant on their honesty. From my perspective, despite all that the club were excellent hosts and I hope they gained enough from their opportunity to feel it was worthwhile.

The game, well we got a goal, and well-resourced Morriston will no doubt see this as a win then move on. I’ve thought about Clydach a lot since our visit- I hope they can unpick the Gordian Knot that is their location.
