I had mixed feelings as we bought some seaside rock on Blackpool seafront. I do like the place, even if it is tripperish to the extreme and getting run-down to the point where at short notice we were able to find cheap hotel rooms at a major seaside resort, in high season.

We headed to Lostock, in Bolton’s environs, to a pair of clubs which potentially at least could have been a logistical nightmare. CMB and Tempest United are no more than a quarter-of-a-mile apart but there is little or no parking at Tempest. It speaks volumes for the league and both clubs that getting the clubs to co-operate so that everyone parked at at CMB avoiding a log-jam later on.

CMB used to be a works team, the initials stand for Cunnard Metal Box, a factory producing metal cans for the food and drink industry. That for me makes them cousins to Kent County League outfit Ten Em Bee another former Metal Box works team, who famously had a certain Ian Wright play for them!

We arrived to hive of activity, including a pop up bar near the car park. I may not be into beer for breakfast but plenty are, and I am definately one for cake for breakfast, and there was plenty of that to enjoy too! And don’t tell Robyn, I did try the sausage casserole too- yes folks put on interesting catering and you’ll make money. Future host clubs please take note!

The game was rather unfortunate from a CMM perspective. An exchange of goals in the first 10 minutes looked to have set up a fair draw but whoever said games last 90 minutes clearly hadn’t told Eagley. Two goals in 2nd half stoppage time gave them the points as already some groundhoppers were contemplating a restorative walk….
