It did feel that we were heading to the league’s northern outposts. I remember being slightly miffed that I’d missed out on missing Skegness’s former ground Burgh Road. The club moved to Wainfleet Road in 2017 and the reason I’d missed out was simple, time and distance. If ever there was a reason for an organised groundhop this was it.

It did feel a little unworldly, which was odd, there have been no end of GroundhopUK games on Sundays, perhaps finally meeting two Facebook friends added to it. It was lovely to finally meet Will and Jess (no they’re not together!) and hopefully our paths will cross more often.

We visited a ground and a club that were impressive in their own way. The stadium is one that can easily be scaled up as Skeggy progress, and the clubhouse is well-appointed too. The club hosted beautifully, they clearly heeded GroundhopUK’s advice that locally brewed beer sells well- and yes I did take home 4 bottles! It was a pleasure to spend Sunday morning with them.

We got a good game too, with defending clearly an optional extra! Newark Town deserved their win, but boy did the hosts make them work for it in the end!
