There are plenty of groundhoppers out there who wouldn’t be interested in a game like this. Some would say the level is too low, the Taunton League feeds the Somerset League which in turn feeds the Western League at Step 6. Others would hate the idea of a plastic pitch in a cage in a school’s grounds, but needless to say I take a slightly contrary view.
I certainly wouldn’t want to watch all of my football in places like these, even if this one has an excellent surface, and the comparative luxury of a proper viewing area. I suppose I’ve learned to find my game, then find something within my location to inspire me. Some places, needless to say, are more inspiring than others!
But there was plenty to enthuse about here. Local cup competitions can be vibrant occasions and with both sides bringing fans the cage positively buzzed. It was a good game to watch too, as is so often the case when the level drops below Step 7 often the standard of play doesn’t. And the excellent new pitch allowed both sides to pass and move well.
In the end Morganians were the deserved winners, the Westonzoyland penalty conceded purely by the keeper kicking out at the forward, and collecting a rather fortunate booking for his sins! Nevertheless both sides should be congratulated on providing an excellent evening’s entertainment.
Looks awful
It’s the usual pitch in a cage and I’d have questioned my sanity if the game hadn’t been so good. The two sides’s fans helped too
Nothing wrong with cup football on plastic pitches. Seen 2 good games like that myself this season. Good heading too!!
Don’t mind plastic pitches, more the location and a cage. Would have to be a pre season friendly after not seeing a game for months before I could go to a place like this. Walton Casual come’s to mind or was it the other lot ?
It was Casuals I think!!
