ST NEOTS TOWN 0
BIGGLESWADE TOWN 3 (Knight 27 73 Daniels 58)
Att 32 (h/c)
Played on 2nd (3G) pitch, Rowley Park, St Neots
When the temperature is sub-zero and the snow piled high, you have to be creative in finding your football. I was fortunate in quite a few respects last Wednesday, firstly that when St Neots sold their old Rowley Park home, and gained their new Rowley Park stadium, no only did they get a fine replacement, they also gained a floodlit artificial pitch too! With almost all games called off on both Saturday and midweek, they decided to challenge neighbouring side Biggleswade Town to a friendly, mostly to keep the players fit.
My fortune continued when respected hopper Brian Buck found about it and publicised the game, and Lee West decided to come with me and split the travel costs. It added up to a convivial evening, if rather cold!
Nominally this was something of a turn-up with Southern League Central beating Southern League Premier, but this was far more about getting both sides time on the pitch, and maintaining fitness than the result after a decent ninety minutes’ entertainment.
And that is the spirit in which I took it, including the rather inappropriate advert for a coach company!
